30 Little Things – Day 27 – “UNITY”

For those of you who were not at our wedding, perhaps you don’t know about the Unity Shot. The Unity Shot is a sacred tradition in Chris’s family, wherein one brother calls another brother who calls another brother who calls the final brother to take a shot of whiskey. It’s not just about the whiskey, though (haha, yeah right.) It’s about one brother being there for another brother, no matter the circumstance, time of day, what-have-you. And of course, parents, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, girlfriends (if they’re worthy), and even grandparents are welcome to participate in the Unity Shot.

Since The Brothers are all spread out now, it takes a little more effort to orchestrate a Unity Shot. In Oregon, for example, you can’t buy booze past 8:00 PM. Where Calvin lives, it’s three hours ahead. Despite all this, though, The  Brothers always find a way to make the Unity Shot possible.

Tonight, like any other night, we transcended time, space, and state liquor laws to ensure that we were all able to partake in the Unity Shot.

UNITY!

This is not an actual shot…Just a cocktail…A cocktail that we took a really large sip out of…Sometimes you have to improvise…

30 Little Things – Day 26 – “Traitor”

I thought the bottle of La Victoria hot sauce in our refrigerator was a fluke. My old roommate must have left it when she moved out. Or maybe Calvin gave it to us when he moved. Surely, Chris did not go out and buy it, right? I mean, this is, without a doubt, a Tapatio house, folks. Or so I thought. Then tonight, as we brought out all the beef taco accoutrement, Chris pulled out this bottle of La Victoria. Me and Señor Tapatio are muy disappointed.

30 Little Things – Day 25 – “It’s a lamp!”

I’d always loved this lamp. LOVED IT. Unfortunately, when Chris and Calvin were moving out of their place and Chris was moving in with me, he gave it to Calvin in exchange for the dining room table and chairs (which, yes, are also bad-ass, but look at this lamp!)

This past weekend, Calvin moved to Washington D.C. and took the very bare minimum of stuff, which means I finally got The Lamp! The one I’d been waiting for all my life! Finally mine! ALL MINE! Well, and maybe Chris’s a little bit, too?

Who cares if it’s 90 degrees outside?

I stumbled across some blogs today and found that some ladies (who I don’t actually know, but whatever! Internet, I’m not a loser!) are holding a “Girl, Get Your Scarf On!” scarf exchange extravaganza of sorts. I happen to love scarves, and – AHEM – even knit them, so I thought I’d participate. Please see the above links if you’re interested in getting your knit (or crochet, or purchase) on, too!

30 Little Things – Day 23 – “Mr. Hobbes goes to Washington”

Here’s Felix about 10 minutes after we gave him the pill that will knock him out for the next 12 hours as he travels from San Diego to Washington D.C.

Best case scenario: Felix will sleep for the entirety of the trip, wake up in D.C., and be only a little bit pissed off at Calvin.

Worst case scenario: Felix will be so enraged, he’ll fight to stay awake during the entire flight, cry, piss, shit, annoy everyone on the entire plane, and then arrive in D.C. and promptly pass out.

My money’s on the latter.

Good luck, Calvin! I’ll miss you! I will not, however, miss your cat.

30 Little Things – Day 22 – “Brothers”

Surrounded by boys: This is my life any given day of the week. And while two of the four gentlemen in this picture are not actually related to me, rest assured there are two others on the phone who are. Ah, the brothers.

They don’t make ’em like they used to

You know those days where you hear nothing decent on the radio? Like, it’s all commercials or lame-ass songs? Well, yesterday’s ride home from work was riddled – riddled, I tell you! – with a few of my favorite songs from the ’90s. Not only did I hear every song in its entirety, but the songs just kept getting so more and more radically ’90s that I though, Ohmygod, I have to write a blog about this!

So, please join me in reliving a little bit of our youth (well, for some of us, it was our youth…)

Rad ’90s Song #1: Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” (They actually do play this all the time on the radio, but I never tire of hearing it. DAMMIT, I love me some Chris Cornell.)

Rad ’90s Song #2: Garbage’s “Only Happy When It Rains”

Rad ’90s Song #3: Spin Doctors’s “Two Princes” (Hah, so I never actually knew what they were saying in this song until I searched for it on You Tube. How sad. Oh well, it’s still damn catchy!)
It won’t let me embed, so click here.

RADDEST ’90s Song #4: Color Me Badd’s “I Wanna Sex You Up” (OH. MY. GOD. Who remembers when this song debuted on “90210”?! I could go on and on about their suits! and their dancing!, but you should just watch it for yourself…)

Rad ’90s Song #5: Ace of Bace’s “The Sign” (When we were 11, my best friend and I performed this for my mom. I will not say any more about that.)

30 Little Things – Day 21 – “It’s dinnertime, I hope you’re not attached to your tastebuds!”

Whoopsies, I missed yesterday’s 30 Little Things post. Rest assured, nothing even remotely exciting happened yesterday, so you didn’t miss much anything.

Here’s what we’re having for dinner tonight (well, these and some MEAT! kabobs, because it wouldn’t be a real meal unless there was MEAT! We love MEAT!) Please notice the kabob made up solely of hot peppers. The last time we did this, someone – ahem, CHRIS – roasted habaneros and then ATE HALF OF ONE. He couldn’t feel his face and I laughed at him for the rest of the meal, as he tried to regain his sense of taste. Yup, that’s the kind of wife I am, folks…I think I’m settling into this role quite nicely.

Tres artistic

God only knows why, but Calvin had this empty frame in the back of his car and after dinner, he posed Chris and I in the parking garage and took this picture. This photograph is proof that sometimes it’s just easier to give into Calvin’s antics, rather than try to put up a fight.
