Christmas movies: An official list

I feel like every year I ask the twitters for their favorite Christmas movies, but then I never keep the list and the next year I have to ask all over again and every year I feel like I’ve forgotten to watch one of the good ones. So! I decided to compile a list of Christmas movies! Then we can refer back to this list year after year to ensure we’re maximizing the holiday spirit. Let me know if I’ve left any off, although I am omitting anything animated or animated-ish (see: the Grinch, Jack Frost) because ain’t nobody got time for that.

A Christmas Story
The coup de grace.

Die Hard

Elf

The Family Man
Oh, you don’t like Nicolas Cage? Go take a short walk off a tall cliff. (Christmas spirit!)

The Family Stone
I love/hate this movie.

Go
Unconventional? Maybe. But it does center around the Mary X-Mas superfest.

The Holiday
I always thought this was about two women who swap boyfriends. I finally watched it last night and it’s, uhh, not. It’s also very cute.

Home Alone
I CLASSIC. I will never tire of Kevin and his antics.

It’s a Wonderful Life

Last Holiday
I watched this approximately 10 times on my flights to and from Israel. In the summer. Merry Christmas?

The Long Kiss Goodnight
It’s…kind of a Christmas movie…?

Love, Actually

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
“I don’t KNOW, Margo!” Yeah, there are just so many quotables in this one.

The Santa Clause

When Harry Met Sally
Okay, not a Christmas movie, but there is a Christmas tree scene, so.

While You Were Sleeping
Oh, probably just one of my all-time favorites.

You’ve Got Mail
Also not technically a Christmas movie, but definitely feel-good. Also, more twinkle lights! Also, Meg Ryan!

And here is a list of movies I haven’t seen (or don’t like), but that people on twitter said were their favorites: Bad Santa, Holiday Inn, Home Alone 2, Miracle On 34th Street, Nightmare Before Christmas, The Ref, Trading Places, and White Christmas.

    Beautiful Girls.

I know it’s not TECHNICALLY a Christmas movie, but it kind of is. And I love it. 🙂
