30 Little Things : 10 : The best part of my day

When I was pregnant, the best part of my day was taking off my bra. Man, just thinking about that makes me smile. I never bought new bras when I was pregnant; instead, I just crammed the gals into my old bras, so by the end of the day, it was like, WHOO! Get these puppies outta here! Of course now I haven't worn a bra in over a month (nursing tanks, woo!) so that's no longer the best part of my day.

Anyway, enough about boobs!

Now the best part of my day is when I wake LG up to eat. Right before she starts to wail ("How DARE you wake me up to feed me, woman! I shall claw at your boobs with my talon-like fingernails!" (Guess I wasn't done talking about boobs, huh?)) she streeeeeeetches as she's waking up (like a real human, this one!) and makes the cutest faces.

See?

Rise and shine!

Rise and shine!

30 Little Things : 8 : 15 Facts about me

1. I'm 5'7" (I always assume other people from inside the computer are also 5'7"-ish, so I'm surprised when I find out some ladies are almost 6-feet tall or, alternatively, little minis.)

2. We receive five magazine subscriptions at our house: Us Weekly, Allure, Better Homes & Gardens, Automobile, and Motor Trend.

3. I've had four last names.

4. I wear a size 8 or 8 1/2 shoe, which means I can almost never find my size.

5. My middle name is Michal.

6. I will eat anything (ANYTHING) except mayonnaise (and even that I do sometimes eat...Tuna fish sandwiches, ranch dressing, etc.)

7. I can't drive a stick shift. Which is fine, as I hate driving anyway.

8. When I was a kid, my mom made me watch the adrenaline shot scene from "Pulp Fiction," to dissuade me from doing drugs. Well, I never snorted heroin, so I guess it worked.

9. I like all kinds of music, INCLUDING country. Alan Jackson is a fave ("Where I come from, we like the girls that sing soprano.")

10. I'm an only child...An only child with three brothers-in-law and three half-siblings...But still an only child. (And proud to be one!)

11. I drive 70 miles roundtrip to work every day.

12. I always confuse J. Edgar Hoover and G. Gordon Liddy. NOT the same person.

13. I share a birthday with Abraham Lincoln.

14. I'm totally not athletic and yet, I can snowboard and I've stood up on a surfboard (in the water, even!) and I've run a half marathon.

15. I've been using the same pair of Tweezerman tweezers for over 10 years. They really are the best.

30 Little Things : 7 : The last item I purchased

I don't know if this is actually the last item I purchased - I think the last thing I bought was gas (boring!) or maybe some maternity stuff from Gap (which said it was delivered yesterday, but was not delivered yesterday...You guys, I have NO clothes that fit...None.) - but this is the last fun thing I bought.

My girl Mama Bub posted about these mascara samplers on Style Lush and I didn't waste one day before ordering mine:

I've tried about half of the mascaras so far, so I can't determine a favorite just yet, but I'll keep you posted.

Also, dudes totally don't get the thrill of the sampler mascara kit. That is, unless you explain it to them like this:

Me: Imagine you could buy a kit with all the different brands of wrenches - Craftsman, Snap-On, Crescent, what have you - which would allow you to easily determine WHICH brand you liked best.

Chris: That would be awesome...But like $300.

Me: Imagine if it was only THIRTY-TWO dollars.

Chris: (Speechless. Mind = blown.)

30 Little Things : 6 : The last book I read

Okay, okay, so I'm still trying to finish Pride and Prejudice. Part of me wants to jump ship, but the other part of me is like, "Sarah! You only have 50 pages left...Just finish the damn thing!" (And if I want to meet my goal of reading 12 books this year, then I really do need to just finish the damn thing.)

And speaking of my 2011 to do list, Chris bought me this book for my birthday, to help me achieve my goal of learning all the country capitals:

I have always been mildly obsessed with maps and atlases (atli?) and globes, so this was a fantastic gift. Now if you need me, I'll be hiding behind it until I finally decide to finish Pride & Prejudice once and for all.

30 Little Things : 5 : A photo of me without makeup

What better way to celebrate my birthday than to post a picture of myself on the Internet sans makeup?

After all, I was born this way - minus the crows feet and the pregnancy-induced acne, of course - so it's sort of apropos.

30 Little Things : 4 : Meaning behind my blog name

Back when I first started blogging in 2007 (with a blogspot address, natch) I was Long & Pointless Sarah, sort of a nod to my penchant for telling long, pointless stories.

Then, about a year and a half ago, I decided to actually buy my own domain name and was faced with the WHAT SHOULD I BE CALLED?! dilemma. I was sort of over the Long & Pointless shtick, as I didn't want to be known necessarily for being a teller of long, pointless stories; plus, it was a really long name to type.

When thinking of what I wanted my domain name to be, I knew I wanted something I wouldn't want to change sometime in the future, and I wanted something that was sort of a play on words or punny.

I finally settled on Home Sweet Sarah, thinking it was perfect, as this is my Internet home. Sometimes I wonder if people think it means I'm calling myself "sweet" - which I'm most certainly not...I know I'm not sweet! I also wonder if people get that it's a nod to my Internet home, or if that's just something that only makes sense to me.

Regardless, if people didn't get it before, they'll get it now!

30 Little Things : 3 : A photo from my childhood

This question is sort of apropos, as I am currently waiting - patiently, very patiently...take your time, kid - for my little Mini-Me ("I shall call her...Mini-Me.") to arrive. Here's a photo of Mini-Sarah:
30 Little Things : 3 : A photo from your childhood
I'm stealing my grandpa's records. Apparently I used to do this all the time. What a little hellion!

And, apropos of nothing - I know it's all up to God/higher power/whatever you believe in and what he/she/it makes our kid look like - but dammit to hell, I hope she doesn't get my nose.

30 Little Things : 2 : The best Christmas present I ever got

The day after Thanksgiving 2006, my family and I stumbled upon a Zinfandel tasting at one of our favorite local restaurants.

After some (bottles of) wine, I dragged my dad to the jewelry store next-door* and begged him to buy me diamond earrings.

A month later, on Christmas, I opened these:

These earrings are better than the ones I picked out in the jewelry store, though. The diamonds belonged to my great-grandma Adele and my parents had them reset (in a martini setting) for me.

Whenever I'm feeling sort of "Ugh, I have NO jewelry to wear!" I slap myself back into shape and remember, when in doubt, just wear diamonds. I wear these diamonds a lot.

*About six months later, in a similar situation (this time fueled by Bloody Marys), I'd drag my new boyfriend Chris into this same jewelry store and try on engagement rings. Four months later, I'd be engaged. That jewelry store is good luck.

30 Little Things : 1 : My work space

I assume we're talking about my at-home work space, not my work-work space. (This blog is supposed to be a happy place and my work-work space makes me angry, what with its ill-placed door and loud copy machine.) So, this is a picture of my living room, where I "work" when I'm at home...Writing blogs, eating dinner, watching all my DVR'd shows...You know, important stuff.30 Little Things 1
I'm sitting on this couch as I type, pausing this important work only to fast-forward through the commercials on The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

I should have taken a before picture of the room, because there are several new items of note (big TV, zebra rug, gold mirror!) but just imagine the before as being really, really boring. I have a few more touches I need to make (turquoise throw pillows, something colorful and fun for the mantle), but other than that, this room is pretty much perfect. On to the next!
